Biostatistics Faculty Positions

The San Antonio Cancer Institute and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio seek to fill two biostatistics faculty positions. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. These positions require a Ph.D. or Dr.P.H. in Biostatistics or Statistics, or in a related health science discipline. Successful candidates are expected to have outstanding collaborative scientific research experience, to have strong statistical methodological as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. These positions require 3 or more years of post-doctoral experience in biostatistics—a strong clinical trials or cancer research background is desirable. The candidates will be expected to help expand the extramural research base of the San Antonio Cancer Institute (a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center with current funding of $60.1 million) as well as further the academic mission of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Medicine.

Currently, the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics has doctoral-level faculty with strong collaborative ties to several large research programs such as the San Antonio Cancer Institute, the Children's Cancer Research Institute, and the Frederic C. Barter General Clinical Research Center. These programs span basic, translational, clinical and population-based research.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is located in suburban Northwest San Antonio.

Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is accepting applications for two open rank tenure-track scholars in its Institute for Health Promotion Research. We seek candidates who apply social science theory and methods to issues of health promotion, disease prevention and health disparities. Candidates may possess expertise in any of the following areas: epidemiology, bioinformatics, health promotion, health communication, health psychology, policy research, environmental/occupational health, screening, and survivorship.

Qualifications include: 1) a terminal degree (PhD, DrPH, MD or equivalent) in social science, behavioral science, nursing, education, public health, or medicine; 2) a strong record or promise of extramural funding; and 3) a strong publication record for rank. We seek researchers who can contribute immediately to publications, grant writing, mentoring students and fellows, overseeing data management and analysis, and implementing research protocols. Special populations of interest include Latinos, and communities that are underserved or challenged educationally or economically.

Candidates have the option of locating in San Antonio or at the university’s regional campus in Harlingen, TX. Candidates must appreciate sunshine, year-round golf, great food, a family-oriented culture, and a very affordable cost of living. The full-time positions, which come with start-up packages, include 3 years of salary support plus research funds, and excellent fringe benefits. Opportunities exist for diverse research experiences in a collegial environment with a potential for growth. Multidisciplinary research opportunities are available in clinical and community settings in San Antonio and along the Texas-Mexico border. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience. Following the third year of appointment, the faculty members must have 70% extramural support. Teaching is optional.

The Institute for Health Promotion Research was created in October 2006 within the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
